Leo n Fairy are so full of energy these days. Sometimes I wonder what is the true nature of a feline - it is to be wild and free I think - to live on its own, hunt and survive in nature. And if we keep cats as pets, we owe to them a certain degree of indulgence, activity and playfulness. They are always wild at heart - no matter how domesticated - and require play and simulation. And if we can't provide them with the necessary entertainment, we may be doing a certain disservice to them. Are the laid back fat cats of ours who get easy meals, naps and no play true representatives of their species - certainly not - are they meant to be like this - no! And is this a fault of the cats - no. A cat is always playful and energetic at birth - as a kitten - and it continues to be so as long as you keep interacting with it. And if we begin to ignore this, it shrinks back from its outgoing personality to a laid back nature very quickly, and often without our notice. There is certainly a personality change and this belies their inherent nature and instincts that they are born with. And if we keep playing with them - keeping them entertained - then they continue to be active through their adult years - no matter what the breed! I think having a pet is a commitment far greater than most of us consciously comprehend. There are of course many many aspects to the care and rescue of domestic cats - but anyways - in short I think we should more time with our cats, the most sensitive of mammals, for theirs as well as ours sake.
